Today, we celebrate International Translation Day. The theme for this year’s celebration couldn’t be more fitting–finding the words for a world crisis.
This day is an opportunity to acknowledge the work of language professionals, who play an important role in bringing nations together and contributing to developing and strengthening world peace and security.
Translators and interpreters provide vital services in facilitating communication. This year, the importance of translator’s work to ensure clear information reaches everyone to overcome language barriers has been highlighted in unprecedented ways. As we continue to face challenges with the pandemic, language is more important than ever as rapidly evolving information has to reach all humans of the world.
As we celebrate International Translation Day today, may we take a minute to appreciate the work of translators and interpreters across the globe who break down language and cultural barriers to help those around us, especially during these challenging times.
Whether we're talking on the telephone with someone who speaks a different language or we need to understand an important public health document as we undergo quarantine, remember the roles of interpreters and translators who not only translate the words, but give depth and life by giving its hidden meaning and cultural significance.
Happy International Translation Day!
We’d also like to personally acknowledge and thank all of our translators who worked hard on translating vital public information this past year. Our translated documents can be found on the Queensland Government website link here.
