March 8th is International Women's Day. Recognizing this day is significant for number of reasons. Here are a few:
1. 14 million girls — some as young as eight years old — will be married against their will in 2014.
2. An estimated 1.2 million children are trafficked into slavery each year--80% are girls.
3. Gender equality continues to be a struggle for women around the world.
On Saturday, we encourage you to speak out against issues affecting women today. Why not post something to your Facebook feed celebrating women or join in on an International Women’s Day event happening all over the world. If in Australia, here is a link to events sponsored by UN Woman: https://unwomen.org.au/iwd/about-iwdcontact-details
